I "liberated" a manual disc system from a 74 Comet and when I compared the "junction blocks" from the manual 74 Comet and my 74 manual drum Maverick I found that the location of the brake lines from the junction block to the various calipers/wheel cylinders is different. If the P-valve is the same why would this be? I have one explanation..It is possible that the comet was not a 74...I could not get the drivers side door open to look at the "factory sticker", however, the brake pedal "rubber" had a chrome placard on it that stated "disc brakes". The reason I mentioned this is because I previously owned a 74 Grabber that had manual discs with the same placard and I wondered if this was unique to that year since discs were standard after 1974. Last question, If the 75-77 P-valve is the same then you should be able to use all of the 75-77 power brake components--spindles, calipers, brake lines, P-valve etc. and purchase a manual MC from the local parts store and convert any year maverick/comet to a manual disc sysetm? Obviously, you wouldn't use the power booster in such a conversion.

: The 1974 Maverick disc brake option uses the SAME prop-valve as the drum/drum setup, which is the same as the '71-'73 prop valve...The '75-'77 Mavericks/Comets used the Power-brake prop-valve for BOTH power and non-power setup because it is cheaper and works for both...Pre'75 Mavericks use a "junction block" which is really not a prop-valve...'The '74 Maverick with manual disc option used the SAME junction-block....'75-'77 had an actual proportioning valve. I KNOW of which I speak so don't anybody argue with me....

: : It is NOT the same.

: : : TL, are you saying that the p-valve for the manual 4 wheel drum and the manual front disc/rear drum setup is the same? If so, I would assume that the master cylinder is the same also.

: : : : ...to change the proportioning-valve with the front disc/rear drum setup UNLESS you go with power assist. If you experience a problem with rear-wheel lock-up, install an adjustable prop.valve...

: : : : : : Is there complete interchangability with disc brake systems within the 70-77 mavs/comets? In other words, will a newer (75-77) disc brake set-up work on 74 or earlier? I realize that if swithching to power you must use the brake pedal as well.

: : : : : :Yes, it has been made to look allot harder then it is by magazines and parts suppliers. It is a straight forward change out. Most people forget the proportioning valve and that is where they end up having problems.
