I have an 8" rearend which was apparently blown up, the housing has lots of damage with some repaired cracks and some not. The pumpkin is completely a different color and the gears look new (at least to a dummy like myself). It still has the tag which indicates a 2.79 ratio. I also have an 8" which shows no damage to the housing. My question is: Is there any simple way of verifing that ratio of those new looking gears? It is easy to see and count the teeth on the ring gear but hard to see on the pinion gear. Help! thanks
