I am going to be starting the same thing for my 70 Maverick.Now , since you have a 250 , torque converters will interchange between the 250 - 302, the torque converter should have a letter and numbers on it reading "F-18", if it does then you are set to go, bellhousings are the same as well. The brakes definitely need to be changed along with the springs , the V8's torque will twist the leaf springs to much, and the front coils will sag the front down to much and the car will feel sluggish on bumps and when good handling is needed.I am not sure about the trans. crossmember though.The drive shaft and yoke should work with the 302 (strength wise) , not sure about length though.Now , don't worry about the C4's strength , the only time to be concerned is when going from a 170, 200 to a 250 or V8.Hope this helps.
