No you will not be smoking the tires every time you leave the driveway(unless you try to!) To try to put it in simple terms, look at it like this ,The converter is designed to "slip" up untill a set R.P.M. (LIKE 2500) .The reason for this is to let the engine get up and into a higher r.p.m.where its making more horspower and torque. before applying the power to the rear wheels the best comparison I can make is to think of a manual 4 speed car,If you let the clutch out at 1500 rpm you take off normally. But if you rev the engine up to say 2500 rpm the car takes off alot harder ,thus accellarating quicker. If you drive normally a 2500 converter normally does`nt slip at all unless you step on the gas hard ,so street driving is unaffected .On the other hand a 3500 converter will usually slip some during normal driving(acts like a car with a slipping clutch)untill you level off at a steady speed . Keep in mind that converters will slip (stall)differently depending on engine power output, vehicle weight, rear gear ratio, and rear tire diameter. hope this clears things up a little for you
