I'm sorry I can't help you with your problem. But I wanted to share a little info , I have a 70 Maverick(200 i-6) , and when I got my car I had a bad fuel leak as well. My problem was this, every time I would give it throttle it would actually shoot a little stream of gas out of the side of the body (I think it was the lower float bowl), good thing I saw it when I did( 1 day after the purchase of the car) or it probably would have shot a little stream onto the exhuast manifold and caught fire. Just a suggestion , start the car and and look at the carb. , and give it throttle by hand and see if it shoots a little stream out of the bottom , or side. Now , I don't have any clue what was wrong with my carb.(maybe the fuel bowl vent valve or what ever it is called was rotted), so I just took it down to a parts store and got a rebuilt one , and what made me mad is it did the same exact thing when I got the new one , and on top of that I had choke problems too . So I just returned it and they got me another rebuilt one , haven't had a prob. since. But I would recomend having the old 1 bbl. carb. rebuilt.
