...There are numerous causes for knocking. Overheating may be the culprit, since it only happens when the engine is warmed up. A good radiator flush could fix it. If not, try backing off the timing, but not too much. I wouldn't go for anything less than 6deg BTDC. Another trick is to spray a mist into the carb with the engine idling fast. The cool water will dislodge carbon buildup. Still, I would look at the radiator first. Good Luck:)

: A former Ford dealer mechanic whom I trust pretty well, has my 77 Comet (250cu.in.*Automatic*A/C) running really good, but can't seem to get the knock out of exceleration. The vacuum advance is working, because when you really stomp on it, it stops. I notice that it seems to do this more when warmed up. I'm using 89 octane, surely I don't need super. Any ideas?
