I had a knock with my 200 I6 about 3 months ago. My car just would not run right , been tuned atleast 10 times but it seems the timing chain was jumping all over the place. My car also had hesitation problems etc., now the only way I could keep my car running is advancing the timing to 14 degrees(it would sputter and stall) and it had new plugs , wires , coil , rotor , cap , points, carb., vacuum hoses(all were replaced),pcv, air filter, fuel pump, fuel filter, so I was just replacing regular wear items(but the engine was old). The mark was bumping around and I figured I would drive the car about a month then put in my 250 (which is another disaster), eventually I bumped it up to 16 degrees (I assume this was where it was because it went off the pointer). Now , I DO NOT recommend this , I did it because I was planning on pulling the engine anyway. Then , a few minutes after this , my engine began the knock and three days later the engine was in my garage apart. My knock most likely has nothing incommon to yours but I just wanted to share my story with you, but the reason my car began to knock was that 3 (# 1,2,4 pistons) top compression rings had broken.Just thought I'd share it.
