Master Boot Record might be hosed, or the registry. You might try to sys the drive from DOS. I would try Chris' suggestion first.

: Depending on the manufacturer (mine is Maxtor) of the Hard Disk, many companies have data recovery options. For example, when my HDD burned out earlier this year, i got a free replacement and they offered to recover all data on the old one and put it on the replacement for a minimal cost. As far as doing it yourself, it depends on what happened. In most cases you may be able to boot up with the old drive on slave mode (use the new, working one as a master) and get the data that way (if you don't know how, take it in). Otherwise, send it in....physical parts will need to be replaced, and there may be physical scratches on the surface--in which case you can only help lose data. Just make sure to keep it away from anything magnetic, or static.....
