I own a 76 Maverick in Mexico, I am not too much into racing. I normally hit the highway at regular speeds(90/100 Km/h) I've noticed the 4-speed gear box is really not enough for the 302 because at 135 Km/h, the machine sounds like you need to shift to the fifth speed right away or it'll explode. The machine has a smooth sound and has just been adjusted so I don't think it is a problem of compression loss or something similar. Is it possible to have the gearbox replaced for a 5 speed one? I know I will lose some stamina but the machine will then be working at a lower revolution range at high speeds. Please correct me if I am wrong. Thanks.
