Your question is very interesting. The American Mavericks were never equipped with a four-speed transmission like yours. Here in the USA, one could have a three-speed manual or a three-speed automatic. You could install a 5-speed manual transmisssion but it would be a LOT of work and expensive. (if you can even find one). One other alternative would be to increase the rear-end gear ratio (lower numerically) which would lower your cruising RPM. The only thing that would suffer would be your "off-the-line" performance. Tire size will also affect cruising RPM. A taller tire will lower your engine speed. My '73 has a 302cid V-8 with an automatic and 3.55:1 rearend gear ratio. At 65 MPH, the engine runs at about 3000 RPM. The original ratio for my car was 3.00:1 and a friend of mine has a Maverick with a 2.87:1 rear-end. Good luck in any event...
At 135 Km/h, the machine sounds like you need to shift to the fifth speed right away or it'll explode. The machine has a smooth sound and has just been adjusted so I don't think it is a problem of compression loss or something similar. Is it possible to have the gearbox replaced for a 5 speed one? I know I will lose some stamina but the machine will then be working at a lower revolution range at high speeds. Please correct me if I am wrong. Thanks.
