Don't you just love all those "start-up" glitches?!?! At least you didn't burn off your eyebrows and BASH your head on the hood! (yes, I DID have it happen...ONCE!!!) I will have to partially agree with Craig (the starter part!) It sounds like it might be the wrong starter, two types were available depending on tranmission (Stick vs. Auto), one was longer than the other in the drive section. As far as the 'smart' part...experience has sometimes been a harsh teacher (as above!). That, and spending HOURS reading repair manuals and parts books. I am fortunate to have some GOOD pals at various dealer and fleet service parts counters too.
