I dont know if the 77 250's had hardened valve seats but it would be a good idea to get hardened seats and stainless valves in it so that you can run this crappy low octane gas that is avalable. I don't know much about heads but I think that if you raise the compression you will need to run higher octane fuel.
good luck and welcome to the strangest group of car freaks on the net

: Hello everyone. I am a New here. I got my Maverick about 7 months ago. Its a 77 four door with 250. It was setting in the back of a car lot waiting for the crusher when I saw it and fell in love. I bought it for 300$$ and drove it off the lot. It had a few minor problems but for the most part it was in very good condition (still gots the orignial shine).

: Right now it is running pretty good and is very reliable but it is leeking oil from the Head Gasket.
: I am not a very good mechanic but I can do a litlle
: Here is the Question...
: When I go to replace the head gasket should I take it to get the head shaved down?
: Would it Give a plausible increase in performence? What would be the adavantages and disadvantages?
: How much shoul I get shaved off?
: And if I do get it shaved, What else would I need to adjust to compensate for the increase compression.

: thanx alot
: Phillip

: Try to be imformative because I dont know a whole lot and probably need to learn.
