Okay wise guy. Why don't we compare apples to apples, shall we?? Point 1: The inline 6 cylinder engines in the so called 40 ton trucks you are referring to are DIESELS not the gasoline powered motors found in passenger vehicles and are a completely different animal. Point 2: The 300 inline six found in the Ford half ton pickup trucks are NOTthe same motor as the 250cid Maverick engine despite similarities. Also, the 300 inline six was not offered in a three-quarter ton or one-ton pickup. 3rd: It is a FACT concerning gasoline powered automotive engines that a "V" design creates MORE torque and horsepower than an inline design. Have you EVER seen an inline six in a Lincoln Continental or Cadillac Fleetwood? -Of course not! There is a REASON for this. Why are you people so hypersensitive about your beloved six cylinders? The fact is that IF a V-8 will fit comfortably into the engine compartment of a car (Maverick), then that is the engine to use IF you want PERFORMANCE. A 302 CAN be made to run 13s in a Maverick (don't kid yourself) and get the same fuel economy as the "six". I NEVER said that a six couldn't be "built" to go fast; I did say that dollar for dollar the V-8 (302 in this case) is the sure winner. By the way, I don't smoke...
: : The last couple of Expo Ford's held at National Trails Raceway Park in Columbus, Ohio has featured a 13 second 6 cyl Maverick. You first notice it is different because the huge Harwood hoodscoop is off to the side. Then the announcer announces that it is a 300 6 cyl Maverick. Then you notice the sound (Yes, it sounds like a lawnmower). When it ticks off 13 seconds, you literally have to pick everybody's jaw up off the ground. I have it on video tape, and you can hear the crowd gasp when it wins. So it can be done!!

Try to beat that with a 302--even if you can, the point remains that this particular 300 I-6 is good for more than just racing. This same car, provided the suspension,rear end&tranny have been correctly adjusted is suddenly not just a 13 second car, but also one hell of a tow vehicle!! Don't think so? Well, put this in your pipe and smoke it---What engines are most large trucks powered by? Not v8s. INLINE SIXES. let me repeat INLINE SIXES. ANy mechanic worth his salt knows that for sheer, all out pulling power combined with quiet operation, there is nothing like an inline engine. Do you dispute this T.L.?? If so, then you are no mechanic. 40 ton trucks are pulled down the road by inline sixes.
