Thanks Paulie. Now for something I actually don't know; I've heard rumors that powerflushing your cooling system can actually weaken the heater core, causing it to blow out prematurely. Now I don't know for sure if this is true but I've gone through so many heater cores that I'm not taking any chances anymore. Now I just drain what's in the radiator and top it off with fresh stuff & call it good. Any thoughts?...
P.S. Straight 8??? Was that a typo? Never seen one in a Maverick..

: Saddest thing the other day... I saw one of my neighbors coming up the road hazzards flashing and all so I pulled over to see if I could help... (hey, an overheating mav, who hasn't been there?!) Sweet inline 8! Well, the hoses were TWICE the size they are normally and the poor old thing was just dying to blow one if not all of them!
: I asked what had happened and he said that he "just had replaced the water pump and didn'y know but he could fix it." I asked him if he'd tried either the thermostat of the heater core or if he'd back flushed his cooling system (had to do that to Alice once.. argued with the shop to get them to do it!) but all he did was look at me blankly! then he started in with his "I don't know what it is but I can fix it"... ah well... at least he made it home...
