Yea, it's "sorta" true. It doesn't really weaken them but it does wash out all the little bits of sediment and rust that have been "sealing" all the little leaks in the core and 'presto' you get a leaky heater core after a "power flush". The best recommendation I have is to regulary run your coolant through it (at least once a month) by setting your 'temp' selector to warm (non A/C) and letting it flow for a good 15 minutes or so while you drive an already warmed up engine (with a 'factory A/C' car you'll need to put the 'mode' selector in 'heat' to open the vacuum operated temp valve to allow coolant through the core). Of course the usual regular 'driveway' flush and fill will help too...disposing of the 'spent' coolant properly OF COURSE, we are all 'eco-friendly' aren't we?! No, giving it to the neighbor's cat IS NOT proper disposal!!!! ;)
