Explorer axles won't work without lots of effort. I read the same article(or a similar one) and I think they were talking about shortening and resplining axles.
What Capri are you talking about?
I don't know about the early european capri's but 1980's ones won't work, as they are 8.8 or 7.5 like the explorer, but only 4-lug.
Your best bet would be to get a Maverick, Comet, Granada, or Mercury Monarch 8-inch complete rear and swap the assembly out. I know it sounds like more work, but in my opinion it's easier. Read about a possible 9-inch swap I put on the bulletin earlier
Good luck!

: I just found your forum the other day... it looks great and I have already found it very informative.

: I came across some info that suggested that the axles and other components off a '95-97 Explorer(rear disk years) were bolt on conversions for a Maveric rear. Anyone ever done this or able to confim or deny this?

: I am new to the restoration scene and have a few questions about Possi rears.
: I have read (here on this forum) that the Merc capri had a possi rear, but then I read that any rear can be converted using a kit, and probably cheaper than restoring a used rear. Do I have this right? I had planned on finding a five lug rear to replace my four lug(did the front brake swap)... would i be better off going to a Capri rear and rebuilding it or find a plane rear and restoring the putting on possi?

: Is the Capri possi rear any different from a Maveric rear with possi added?
