whenever i get a rough idle every couple of weeks all i do is change my 2nd spark plug. thats the one on the cylinder with the bad ring, so it gunks up every once in a while, but its damn easy to change, and they are only a dollar and a half. and i get smoke on start up too, and thats from the bad ring as well. you might want to try to get new plug cables, a new distributer cap, and a new rotor. those may not be necessary, but they are all dirt cheap at auto zone. just some ideas here.
