I put a 4spd hurst in my 70 mav, and it required cutting the crossmember. It was made for a mustang, though. The shifter you have is probably also made for a mustang. Hurst no longer makes the Maverick 3 spd shifter as far as I can find out, but they sell the linkage individually and could probably help you if you contact them directly. I don't know how to talk to Hurst, but they are now owned by Mr. Gasket, if that helps.
: I just got my Maverick (1970, 3 spd, 200ci) and the previous owner gave me a floorshifter he had. He said he just hadn't gotten around to putting it in. It's a Hurst Indy SSA 3 Spd Floor Shifter P/N 501-0002. From what I can see, I need to cut about 6 inches out of the cross support for the floorboard to get the bracket in. Is this wise to do, or it still be sound? Has anyone out there installed one of these? If so, was it worth it? I really do hate the wide gate on that column shifter. Thanks.
