well you didnt mention what kinda motor was in the car, I am assuming it has the top loader 3speed tranny cause they are the most common.... but it aint hard at all actually, all you need to do is pull the drive shaft, then the tranny (dont forget how the linkage goes back on) , then the bell housing, then the preasure plate. You might want to resurface the flywheel as long as you got it apart.
if it has a 3 speed tranny you can probly lift it out with out the need of a jack, putting it back in this way is a bitch but it can be done, Ive done several clutches on mavericks (and comets) in driveways.. If you havent got any clue as to the nesesary steps go to the local library and photocopy their copy of chiltons from the appropriot time period....
as for the oil in the PS pump, I really dont see why it would hurt anything right away, but the PS pump is designed to use type "F" PS fluid, simplr undo one of the lines towards the bottom of the system and drain all the old stuff out, If you really feel that it needs to be flushed out refil it with new and drain it again, I'd just drain the old stuff and refill with new, any of the old thats left aint gonna harm it any....
: I was wondering if anyone has a 72 Mercury Comet out there who has had experience changing the clutch.Apparently my dumb ass sister burned it out as well as poured oil into the power steering. Also, anyone got a glass pack installed on their muffler? I'm planning on clamping one on to my V-8.
