Building a Hot Maverick???

I just bought a '73 Maverick Grabber, 302, auto and posi and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on making it a really hot street and stripp car. My brother has a 5.0 ( i hate that metric crap) that runs 12.3 on street tires through mufflers without nitrous. I would like to be able to beat him (in more ways than one!!!) for less money with (in my opinion) an cooler car. Thanks
