I hate the metric conversion also. Divide cui by 61.02 to get litres,
or multiply Litres by 61.02 to get cui. Now to the fun. What is your budget?
Probably the best thing to do is shop around for a 351W and rebuild it.
then swap out the 302 recoup some of your cash, get a good 2.5 muffler and some
shorty headers and go with electronic ignition.
Option "B" is cheaper but you car may be out of use now and again. Build up the 302.
Start with a new holly carb, electronic ignition, and a good set of headers and dual exaust.
Go with a reverse flow water pump and new pully system with a serpentine belt. Now if you
plan right the engine is ready for any internal changes, IE over bore, cam, and whatever else
you want.
My opinion is that the 351W is a bette option.
1. You can get it drop in ready while enjoying your car.
2. No replacemnet for displacement.
