Loosen the locknut on the top of the steering box (I think it is a 9/16") & screw the set-screw in until it bottoms out. Then back it off slightly. What ever you do, don't screw it down tight or you will damage the box. Hold the set screw with the screw driver & retighten the lock nut.

: On the steering gear box there is an adjustment that can be made to take out some of the play in the steering. I am not sure what it is called (worm gear??), and I am not really sure how to adjust it...maybe someone else can chime in here and help.

: : Finished it about a week and 1/2 ago. Let the local Good Year do the allignment ($30.40). Man does it ever handle better. With the exception of getting the wrong ball joints and having to grind off the original ones (The more I get into this car the more I'm convinced that the odometer might not have been rolled over yet) it wasn't too hard. I still have some play in the steering so I'm sure I need to look into the steering box for that one. The steering is not powered or power assisted. There's only about 5-10 degrees of play in the steering so it's not critical. Now I get to start work on the motor. Since I drive this car daily I think I'll have to either buy another motor to re-build or to use while I re-build this one. Either way I end up with an extra motor. If I can't find a motor in better condition than this one I could rebuild that one first as practice and then use it while I re-build this one. Or vice versa if I find one in better condition.
