I am not sure if its the same but I have a 69 1/2 with a three on the colum and I had to pull the entire steering colum out by disconnecting the shift linkage, rag fittings, and bolts under the dash that hold the steering colum to the dash and when I undid everything up top you mentioned the unit came apart out of the bottom. there are also about 4 sheet metal screws on the shift linkage assembley that is attached to the bottom of the steering colum. Taking everything out on a bench laying it in a line made it real easy to reverse and put back together. Dont know if this will help but thought I would send it to you.. Good Luck Kelly
: I posted a couple weeks ago about heater and wiper controls, which I now have fixed.
: Thanks for the tip to go for the instrument cluster rather than the entire dash!
: By the way, the wiper control that only worked on high speed was due to me burning out
: the after-market wiper delay control. A little solder and a bit of wire and it works again!

: I have a 74 Maverick with a 3-on-the-tree. The steering is a bit loose, the shifting is very
: loose, and there is a loud clunk in the steering column when the front wheels go over a bump.
: Any ideas (besides getting a four speed)? I'm trying to take apart the steering column, and
: have been partly successful. Steering wheel is off, screws and parts are out from behind it.
: I'm down to the collar that has the ignition switch in it, and I got the switch out, and I've
: removed all the screws and spring clips that I can see, but it still doesn't come off. Is there
: something hidden that I'm missing? Do I have to take out the spring C clip at the bottom of the
: ignition switch hole?

: Thanks for any help on this long posting.

: Steve
