Yea, I assumed he was talking about a removable carrier when he said "two-piece" because that's what a 8-inch Ford rearend is and that's what his car came with. I was refering to the "overdrive" statement with my comment...

: Could they be refering to a "removable carrier"
: differential? I believe the V8 Mavericks/Comets
: had those, while the sixes had a type called
: an "integral carrier." Neither has anything to do
: with being overdrive, but a removable carrier
: differential has the "guts" removable from the
: differential housing, so you can service the
: differential without pulling the whole rear axle
: out of the car.

: I agree, they may be trying to pull something over,
: unless there was some miscommunication about
: the above terminology. I'd press them with more
: questions about what they're talking about. Like
: I said, there's no such thing as an "overdrive"
: unit on a differential, so I'd tread lightly, un-
: less there was an honest miscommunication about
: the terminology.

: : Sounds like sombody's giving you the "muffler bearing" treatment...

: : : Hey guys,
: : : here's a question that I haven't seen posted before
: : : (If i've overlooked,please excuse me). I have a 1973
: : : Maverick, 2-D, 302,C4. I went to have the diff serviced
: : : and was told that I had a 2-piece differential, the
: : : front piece being an overdrive unit. I've heard of OD
: : : diff units, but always thought they were aftermarket.
: : : Is this possibly a factory unit, or did such beasts
: : : exist? Any input is greatly appreciated.
