: Anyone wanna pitch in on this one? I'm in the process of porting my 289 heads, and need to know which headers would be best. I found some 1 5/8 Hedman's, HTC coated for $350, or some other ones that are 1 1/2 HTC coated for $260. Will the 1/8 inch make that big of a difference? Does anyone think that the HTC ceramic coating will make up the difference in scavengability.
FROM WHAT I'VE READ ON THE SUBJECT, YOU'D BE BETTER OFF WITH THE 1.5 INCH HEADERS UNLESS YOU'RE MAKING BOATLOADS OF HORSE POWER (HUGE CAM, HUGE CARB...ETC.). THE COATING SHOULD HAVE NO EFFECT ON SCAVENGING. EQUAL LENGTH PRIMARY TUBES PROVIDE OPTIMAL EXHAUST SCAVENGING, UNFORTUNATELY EQUAL LENGTH HEADERS WON'T FIT THE MAV UNLESS YOU GO WITH A MUSTANG II FRONT END SET UP AND ELIMINATE THE SHOCK TOWERS. HOPE THIS HELPS, KB
