Ok...so without it, it would shift like newer auto's do. Always shifts at a specific RPM. One more question then...If you removed the kick down rod, what problems would that cause? I know if I drive normally, without flooring it, it shifts real smoothly, but when when I drive with my lead foot and pull my foot off the pedal it shifts realy hard. Obviously I get better accel. in 1st along the top side of the rpm curve, but it sounds like that's all the kickdown rod is good for and if your not trying to pass everybody on the road, it's rather useless.
: and controls how long it will hold the gear out, it kinda bypasses the modulator valve until you pick your foot up.
