:depends on your intended use, 85 up have the hyd roller system in the block, early ones up to 74 are suppose to be a little stronger. block deck height is sometimes a issue so earlier blocks bluid a little more comp. The 289 has one special system except to have matching numbers on a resto. 289 heads are pretty preformance limited even the 289 hipo heads are not anything special, much better heads available from other sources.
Is there a particular version of 302 V8 that is predfered? I Know that the old 289's were available with 60cc heads and the HI-PO had 52cc Heads. Are there various versions of 302 and 302 block, excluding of course the BOSS versions?
