...and the cumbustion chambers could be as large as 63.2cc on those '74 heads...
: So ford "dished" the pistons instead of increasing the chamber volume to drop compression? The 1974 eninge has pistons that are dished with four valve reliefs. I have noticed that the pistons are very close to flush with the deck when at the top of the stroke. So basically, this block is as good as any 302 when using older smaller chamber 302 or 351 windsor heads. Finally, it sounds as though the 74 heads have valves that are smaller than the earlier 302 and 351 heads. Thanks for the info. I really don't want to trash a valuable set of heads or block. As you can tell I'm not a ford expert.
: : I have several questions regarding the performance of this 1974 comet 302 V8. Are the heads of any value? What is the compression ratio? Also, is this block any different as far as strength than a newer block?
: : Basically, I need to know if I should keep this block as a spare or is it your typical run-of-the-mill smog motor that really isn't worth keeping. It would need a complete rebuild. Thanks in advance!
