Have you checked the choke on the caburator, because mine does that and it is the choke that causes it.

: Hi , I have a minor , or possibly major problem. My car ran fine lastnight , but when I started it up this morning it runs like crap.It won't idle and sputters then dies, ran very rough.I even tried to bring the idle up and it stayed running for about 10 minutes and then died, I got it running for a few tests, but now it cranks and runs for about 5 sec. and it is dead.I have never had this problem before,(I have had other problems with the engine the past month if you have been keeping up on my posts) but it never had a problem idling.I checked all vacuum lines and there isn't any leaking, I even installed a different (test carb.) to see if that was my prob.,but no difference.I re-adjusted points, timing, swapped another coil, and pulled a few spark plug wires to see if there was a change, and 1 out of 4 I checked didn't make a difference (I pulled 1, 2 , 5, 8 and when the number 1 came off no difference but the other 3 slowed and almost stalled engine). Now , I understand that a bad spark plug or wire can cause this , but anything else?I fear my engine is dying, and it doesn't even have 2k miles yet. :(
