The main caps on a Mexican block are bulkier. The skirt area of the cylinders are thicker. The ribs in the block are thicker. And supposedly, the blocks have a 5% higher nickel content in the iron.

You can spot them by the "casting nob" sticking out of the front of the block. Anything under $150 - 175 out of a junk yard is a good deal. Clean, line and cylinder honed blocks go for upwards of $450-500. They are the best block available short of an SVO or Boss 302 block and can handle revs up to 8,000 RPMS and 600 HP.
