Started the serious tinkering on Nicky yesterday and after I got him to run I took it for a test cruise. The f**** up Carb makes for some rough running and stalling (another first! I adjusted the carb and got it to start after it died!)
Next Question: The mech I had come out and help me with the alternater said a lot of the problems I have with it will end when I replace the carb (and the feul filter)... I don't have too much reason to doubt him as he is quite willing to teach me to work on the car... (in fact, when the carb comes in he's going to help me to put it on myself!)
The car will not up shift, no matter how much I press on the throttle (which I admit wasn't TOO hard, I'm not trying to make things worse!) The car is "happy" in reverse, 1rst and second but that's all she wrote.
Once again the mech says it's a carb problem (?) but if I insist on replacing the tranny he'll install it for $200 (if I get a new one)... probably less if I help.
Question is, should I shop for a new tranny or could it be the carb? Or could it be the modulator?
The linkage is good, there's no "odd noises" or stickyness to the shifter lever...
