A 3:50 gear is still pretty mild. It's a good road racing gear, but not steep enough for 1/4 mile performance. If you're going to change gears go to at least a 3:73 or 3:91. These are still liveable on the street. I'm running 4:86's in my Maverick, but I don't drive it every day or long distances.

: Thank you both for the responses and for the info. Now , I was reading something saying that a 68 Shelby GT350 with a 302-4v could do the 1/4 mile in 14.9 with a 4 spd and 3.50:1 gears. Now my engine is a little more powerful , and I don't have a 4 spd , but would you recommend a 3.50:1 rear gear ratio? I just don't want to be reving too high when I go fast, but my car isn't going to be a top end car anyway so any opinion please regaurding a 3.50:1 swap.I sure would be happy with a mid-14 sec. car :)
