: You car has a C4 Ford transmission. Sounds like the 1-2 clutch is slipping. try "TRANS-X," it is an additive I have seen very good results from. It may take 100-500 miles to take full effect, though.
: You shouldn't have changed your transmission fluid on such an old car, as you cannot get rid of all the old fluid (unless the trans shop drained the torque converter), and the new fluid usually washes the crud off the walls of the transmission and it goes up the filter (C4's just have a screen, not a paper filter).
: If trans-X doesn't work, then it will probably have to be rebuilt. -CP

: : I recently took my car in and had the Transmission fluid changed and it has been slipping ever since going into drive from start up and also slips going into second gear then catches. The weird thing is if I shift it manually into first and then second it's fine, just when I go into drive it acts up slips and then catches makek a loud noise too. My question is what transmission is used in the 1975 model with the 250 eng, and are there any bands or adjustments that can be made to fix the slipping. Any helpful hints or suggestions on how to fix the slipping into gears on my 75 only has 80,000 miles. Shifter is on the column and does not act up in reverse or when it is in 3rd cruising.

: Did they use Type F fluid when they refilled it? There are two bands that can be adjusted on the C4. One on each side of the trans. They look like a threaded stud with a lock nut. The shop manuals will explain how to do it and number of turns to give each one. There is also a small plug in the front of the case that can be removed and a pressur gage installed to check for correct pressures in each gear position. I would take it back to the garage that chgnd. the fluid and ask them what gives.
