Luckily, you can rule out the late model 5.0L water pump. The reverse rotation pumps (found on Mustangs & Trucks, Crown Vic's have the correct WP for the Maverick) have a different pulley bolt spacing. The bolt diameter is wider, and they cannot be used with older pulleys.
You wouldn't think Ford was that smart, would you?
Also, the reverse rotation pulleys are smooth and serpentine-only, so this rules out the possibility of the wrong pump & pulley. -CP

: If you've replaced the cap and the radiator is new and it's overheating, it's time to check some less obvious conditions.

: 1) Check the belt tightness - is it possible that the belt is slipping?

: 2) Check to see that the thermostat is in the right way

: 3) Do you have the right water pump? Later model 302 water pumps spin the opposite direction.

: 4) Do you have the right pulleys on the crank and water pump?
