Mexican Mavericks

My friend went on a trip to Mexico and took some pictures of Mavericks and a Comet.
Two of the Maverick pictures have a Falcon name plate and one has a 289 badge on it.
Anyone know if Mavericks were once called Falcons or did someone just add the name plate and did they ever come with a 289?

Also, Robert Martn sent me another drawing from his Maverick art which I put in the photo gallery.
