replace them, they also wear out as a thrust washer would in a engine and they work the same way. Broken or burnt parts are the worst things to find. Also look for grooves from dirt/metal that has worn into any mating surfaces. Get a good trans cooler. Not the one in the raditor. That's a piece of shit.


: I'm in the process of rebuilding my tranny, it's a 1970 c4 automatic. I have the tranny almost completely apart, but now that i look at the thrust washers it looks like they may need replacing too....they're worn down to the copper--does that mean anything? or are they normally copper? I know that when an engine bearing wears down to the copper it needs replacing...but it also looks like the washers might have a little wear left in them.
