: I'm in the process of rebuilding my tranny, it's a 1970 c4 automatic. I have the tranny almost completely apart, but now that i look at the thrust washers it looks like they may need replacing too....they're worn down to the copper--does that mean anything? or are they normally copper? I know that when an engine bearing wears down to the copper it needs replacing...but it also looks like the washers might have a little wear left in them.

: Thanks for any info!
: Also...let me know if there's some other thigns to keep an eye out for...

: Have done several C4's, the coloring of the washers is normal. Did you check the lateral (end play) on the input shaft before you disassembled? This will tell you if you need to replace any thrust washers. You can get a new one and "MIKE" it and then compare it to the old ones. Have never had to replace any except for the plastic one on the front pump, which comes in different thickness's to obtain correct lateral as per specs. A trans cooler is always a good idea but for the normal driver, the factory radiator cooler works fine. If you need more help or info on your rebuild just e-mail me. Be glad to help. Run C4's in both my sons drag cars, built right, they are tuff little gear boxes.
