The cast spring pockets are to the hipo heads only, it also used a cast iron 4bbl manifold with a 480 Holley Carb. The alunimum and bigger carb are the Shelby items not HiPo parts. And the heads don't flow any better then the regular 289 heads, They aren't worth anything as far as HiPo goes. No windage tray, just a bigger cam and better carb is it's real claim to fame.
If you want to make a 302/289 a sreamer, build it to 289 "Shelby" specs.
I couldn't find this on the archived boards, but how can you identify HiPo 289s? I found a 289 from a 67 cougar and wondered what the thing may be worth and how much power these engines produced. Any info would be helpful. i know we discussed this before but i can't find it!
