I THINK MY INITIAL POINT WAS COMPLETELY MISSED. PLEASE LISTEN CLOSELY.
A 302 ENGINE PHYSICALLY FITS WITHIN A MAVERICKS ENGINE BAY EASIER THAN ANY OTHER V8. (AND ITS VERY TIGHT) AND YES, A STROKER ENGINE DOES NOT INCREASE THE PHYSICAL SIZE. BUT A 351 BLOCK OR A 428 MAKES A HUGE DIFFERENCE.
MY POINT WAS DIRECTED MORE TO SOMEONE WHO WRONGLY BELIEVES THEY NEED TO PUT COSTLY OR LARGER ENGINES IN THEIR CARS TO GO FAST. THE POINT IS..
ITS RELATIVELY SIMPLE AND INEXPENSIVE TO MAKE A 302 FLY.
IF YOU HAVE BOTTOMLESS POCKET BOOKS THEN (THE MARJORITY OF US DONT)FEEL FREE TO BLOW IT ALL YOUR MONEY ON THE REQUIRED BRAKING AND SUSPENSION UPGRADES. IM SURE YOU CAN ENGINEER A MAVERICK TO DEAL WITH THE UNDERSTEER, CUSTOM MOUNTS, RELOCATING RADIATORS, SHOCK TOWERS, ETC, AND OTHER RELATED PROBLEMS PROBLEMS YOU WILL ENCOUNTER WHEN YOU INSTALL A FOREIGN MOTOR. DONT WORRY ABOUT SLICING UP YOUR MAVERICK. YOU ARE WEALTHY AND IT OBVIOUSLY ISNT AN ISSUE WITH YOU.
I REALLY DONT CARE WHAT PEOPLE DO WITH THEIR CARS. I JUST THOUGHT I WAS BEING A VOICE OF REASON.
I DID NOT ATTEMPT TO TACKLE THE ISSUE OF A STROKER KIT AT ALL. I JUST HAPPEN TO HAVE SEEN 1ST HAND, WHAT A WELL BUILT 302/WITH 289 RODS CAN DO.
THERE IS NO SUBSTITUTE FOR CUBIC INCHES. A 428 OR A STROKER, OF COURSE CAN MAKE MORE POWER THAN A 302. IT JUST OFFERS 10 TIMES THE HEADACHES AND EXPENSE, WHEN INSTALLED INTO A SUB-COMPACT BODY.
AND FOR ANYONE WHO WANTS SPECIFICS ON THE 302/289 TRICK....
PLEASE FIND "THE FORD PERFORMANCE BOOK" BY PAT GANAHL. THIS IS WHERE THE TRICK IS VERY WELL ILLUSTRATED AND DOCUMENTED.
IVE NEVER DONE IT TO ONE OF MY CARS, BUT I PLAN ON DOING SO. MY MAVERICK IS GOING TO KICK SOME SERIOUS ASS, AND STILL LOOK LIKE A MAVERICK ENGINE.
MY GUESS IS IT WILL RUN CIRCLES AROUND YOUR FRANKENSTIEN MAVERICKS, AT A FRACTION OF THE EXPENSE. AND WILL NOT HAVE ALL KINDS OF ENGINEERING DEFECTS WHEN ITS ALL DONE.
