The power steering setup is MUCH better than the manual steering because it has a quicker ratio steering gear. You don't fix something by removing it. Make sure the front end is in good shape (bushings, links, tie-rod ends, etc.) and a bad power steering control valve could cause problems too...
:My custom made headers didn't fit, even after some beating and banging.(but I got them to work) Hooker makes a kit part # 10961 that will lower your p/s control valve about 2.5 inches. You really need to fix your belt problem, and like T.L. says find your steering problem and fix it!
You could always change to a mustang II steering, Ristic Rodworks as a kit that fits the mav. Good luck.
