Power steering was OPTIONAL in V-8 Mavericks as well. Your "oversteer" problem is NOT caused by the power steering. In fact, Mavericks have a lot of understeer in stock form. The power steering setup is MUCH better than the manual steering because it has a quicker ratio steering gear. You don't fix something by removing it. Make sure the front end is in good shape (bushings, links, tie-rod ends, etc.) and a bad power steering control valve could cause problems too...

: i now have a 72 maverick V8. i used to own a 73. both had powersteering. i really would like to remove it, but i have never actually seen a V8 maverick that didnt have power steering.
: i would assume it was available, can anyone verify this?
: from what i understand, simple removal of power steering is not an easy chore. what parts do i have to remove/and or replace? what all does the job involve?
: what kind of cars can i find the donor parts from?
: approximately how much should it cost to remove the power steering from my car? it is the goofiest steering unit ive ever driven. i dont know why ford even offered it with power steering. it oversteers badly, and seeing as i intend to put a 275 HP motor in there eventually, i need to get rid of all the excess.
: thanks
