My dad has a '97 Toyota T-100 with a V-6. He's gets about 21 mpg towing a 3500 lbs Camping trailer, on the highway. It pulls on the engine pretty hard when you start climbing a steep hill, but it will make it. Obviosly your not gonna get great gas millage with a big block V-8. I would
