Rickyracer possed a question I have regarding Electronic Ignition

I have a Mallory Electronic Ignition. I have been running the spark gap as factory 32-36 for a 65 289. Should I open the gap up to 45-50?

Also...I just replace the plugs, and the tips are prefect, but they have a white soot on the metal finger. Any suggestions as to mixture?
