I had the same problems with a ranchero I had, the tank was so filled with crap that it kept clogging the sock filter in the tank. There is two ways to handle this, you can take your tank down to a radiator shop and have them acid dip it , or you can get a can of gas tank flush and take about 50 coarse thread screws(almost like self tapping screws) and dump all of them in the tank, then cover up the holes with rags and shake it around for about 15 minutes.I did this with my tank and the thing had no more rust or crap in it , it looked brand new inside. If you do this though make sure you get every single screw out of the tank. Then when you are finished with that before you install the tank in the car , put some gas in the tank and shake it around just like before just to get any left overs out.Hope this helps
