retoocs, are you talking about the metal piece that bolts to the core support. If I remember correctly, this piece provides a point to mount the center of the grill to. Also, I think it has the hood latch "in" it. Black grills are hard to find. Find a silver one and paint it black. You should be able to get both pieces from the local boneyard!! Good luck
