F-Type vs Drexron II ?.....

On my '72 V8: The dipstick says to add Dexron II Transmission fluid! Maybe it isn't the original dipstick? I thought that all Fords before 1977 had F-Type. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! -Doug
