I dont exactly remember when but Ford did go to Dextron sometime in the very late 60's or early 70's. My 67 Mustang was F & my 77 required Dextron. But when I put a B&M shift kit in the 77 the instructions said to fill it back up with F type. I call & questioned them & they said F type will give you firmer shifts. The Dextron I guess allows more slipping for smoother ones.
