: I took my Maverick out yesterday for the first time this year
: (The snow finally melted... just kidding) and after
: a short drive, white smoke was comming out from under the hood.

: This morning, I took a look at the engine compartment and saw radiator fluid
: on the engine and hood and the radiator was just about empty. I filled the
: radiator up and took the car to pick up some stop leak. When I came home,
: the car was really smoking, and when I opened the hood, white smoke was
: comming from under the air cleaner housing. Do I have a major cooling
: system problem or is the carb shot? Is it worth putting the stop leak in?
: TIA.

it sounds like on of your heater hoses blew. look at the hoses that go from the thermostat back to the firewall. (to the left of your carb)
it sounds like a relatively simple problem. that stop leak stuff, will ultimately stop you up. it is not an acceptable fix, except in case of extreme emergency. (like you are in a desert @110 degrees, and there isnt a garage or parts store for 100 miles)
most of those "miracle in a can" solutions, that sound too good to be true, usually are.
