It sounds to me like maybe your initial timing is too high.Try retarding the timing a few degrees and then try to start the car,
If this fixes the starting problem but causes the car to not run as well ,you`ll need to first check to be sure that your advance mechanism
is not stuck or sticking . If the advance isnt sticking you may want to consider recurving your distributor so that you can run less timing at idle. But it goes up to where it needs to be when the rpms come up.
