I plan on doing this myself. It wouldn't be very hard to mount a tach inside the instrument cluster. I've been looking around for something that would look more factory too, and early 70's Mach 1 tachs very closely resemble the Maverick speedo, but the bad part is they are assembled the same way as the speedo.. i.e. it's not a self-contained tach, but built-in to the intrument cluster. I haven't been able to figure out how to adapt that to match the Maverick cluster, although I'm sure there must be a way. Another good part about using one of these tachs is that they have built-in turn-signal indicators. Mounting an aftermarket tach in place of the factory "guages" would mean relocating the turn signal indicators, or just doing without. Please let me know what you end up doing, as it may help me to decide what to do.
